Technology has become a very big part of our society. We
went from having nothing to having everything in the palm of our hand. Some of it is good but some is bad as
well. I really don’t know what I would do without it
to be honest. Take my cell phone for
example; I have an IPHONE it has everything on it that I need. My step father laughs at me but I call my
phone my life because without it I’m lost.
It has my email, my contacts, my schooling, my photos, my appointments
everything. I really think that my
generation would not be able to service without technology. Technology can help you as a youth worker because
there are so many educational sites on the web, educational TV shows, games,
movies and more. I believe that kids
learn better while interacting with something, whether its friends, a TV show, an
educational website etc. Technology has
its benefits. The computer and internet
have made learning how to read fun. Math is also made fun on the computer. Learning has made a huge step with computers
being used and other technology as well.
Technology is also a distraction though as well. It depends on how you use the technology for
it to be either helpful or a distraction.
It’s your choice.

I also agree that many, if not all, people our age would say they would be lost without their cell phones. I know I would be one of them! Cell phones are a great way to stay connected but also like you said they are a distraction as well. As future youth workers it is important for us to teach the youth we will be working with that technology is a great asset but it should not consume our lives.
ReplyDeleteI would agree as well that many people our age are addicted to their cell phone, and technology as a whole. I would identify myself as an addict of my cell phone especially when it comes to the gps app; without that I would forever be lost! As a future youth worker I can see cell phones being both useful and causing a problem. It can be useful in the ways that you described above, however, the problems could be using phones in a non-educational way. Such as texting friends or family while being in class. But as you also said above that the choice is up to the individual on how they chose to use the technology.
ReplyDeleteWe have become a society that doesn't know how to be without out the world at our finger tips. We leave our phones and our computers at home and we think the world is ending. While this technology can be a negative, the need to be constantly updating and the such. It provides us and learners to have access to so much more information than before. Students use to spend hours in the library to research one topic, technology and the internet now let us access library data bases from a remote location. Our iPhones allow us to have that research at our fingertips. Again, while they can be a distraction, in moderation these technologies are quite exquisite.
ReplyDeleteI use technology every minute of the day, I think technology makes learning in the classroom more interesting for the students and youth.
